About us
Mission
Our mission is that all people, including people on the move, have ownership of their own digital health record, can share this record with trusted healthcare providers and access information about (their rights to) healthcare. This will help improve the continuity and quality of care for people on the move.
Where did this idea come from?
In refugee camps on Lesvos, we saw that many organisations still relied on pen and paper to document medical conditions, even though many refugees have access to smartphones. “People on the move”, such as these refugees, often lose their medical records traveling across Europe. Meanwhile, they may see different healthcare providers on their journey.
The same problem occurs within cities like Amsterdam. People on the move visit different healthcare providers and social organizations, often without medical documents. For many people, remembering their previous medication or past medical procedures may be difficult. A lack of medical information can disrupt the continuity of care.
Who are ‘people on the move’?
We consider people on the move refugees, undocumented migrants, migrants in asylum procedure, labor migrants, expats and people on holidays.
Where do we stand now?
From September 2025 onwards the HealthEmove team is developing new software that better fits the needs of users. We do this in co-creation with people on the move. In March 2026, we have started a pilot in Amsterdam. You can download our app here.
We start on a small scale, but we have ambitious dreams.
Our long-term goal is to take an international approach, introducing HealthEmove at key entry points into Europe and eventually, in as many countries as we can.
The team – Ahti
A team of Amsterdam Health & Technology Institute (ahti) is passionate about accessible (digital) healthcare for people in vulnerable circumstances. Ahti is a non-for profit organization. Ahti has a main focus on data, technology and innovations in the healthcare sector. We believe that all people have the right to their own medical data, and can decide with whom they share their data.
